How to Stop Being Jealous!

Jealousy is something that people look down upon. Jealousy will ruin relationships fast and will destroy good things in your life.

Jealousy is often linked with romantic relationships and this happens because people are worried about losing the person that they love, and this causes envy.

Jealousy can cause there to be anger and sadness and can make you feel that you are being refused what you need.

Here are some ways that you can handle jealousy and be in control of your own feelings:

Find Out Why

If you get jealous there has to be a reason. Look at what is causing it and take steps to change your feelings.

When you realize why you are jealousy you need to figure out where it comes from:

  • Your friend’s new relationship makes you feel like you will never find someone to love you.
  • Someone at your job getting a promotion that makes you feel that you are not good enough.
  • Your partner is spending a lot of time outside of the home.

If you feel jealous, chances are that you are insecure, and you are afraid because of things that have happened in your past. Maybe you need to learn to communicate more and to learn to speak about your feelings.

Concerns

When you are feeling jealous, you need to learn to talk about it and learn to understand the triggers. When you have these feelings, learn to talk about them and learn to understand what is going on in your heart.

You need to set boundaries in your relationships to keep them strong. If you trust your partner, then you should not feel jealous.

If you are worried about talking to your partner about your jealous feelings, then know that there are other people you can talk to.

Friend

Talk to someone that you are close to and let your friend know what is going on. These can be concerns that you have or just feelings. Talk to them and see things from their point of view.

Put a Spin on It

Know that jealousy can be a strong emotion and can be hard to deal with. Instead of allowing negative feelings to come, find out why you are having these feelings.

Know what you want and make sure that you do not ignore your jealous feelings. Doing this will just continue to create a cycle of jealousy and will cause your feelings to be left unfixed.

Whole Picture

Jealousy is a response to something going on in your life. Maybe you are comparing yourself to others and maybe you are thinking of how someone else might look at you.

People will not always be able to tell what is going on in their own lives so they often compare to the lives of others and this can magnify the jealous feelings.

You never know what someone else is really going through though and when you compare yourself to them, you are just comparing to a picture and you do not really know what is  happening behind the scenes in their life.

Be Thankful

Being thankful can get you far. You might not have all the things you want in life but if you have good things in your life then you should be thankful.

You might want things that your friends have but you will not be able to have everything. If you have what you need in your life, relationships, and your feelings, be thankful for that.

When you appreciate the good things that you have, you will see that maybe you don’t need to be jealous at all.

Learn to Cope

You need to learn to cope with your jealous feelings and figure out why you feel the way that you do. Take your attention of what you are feeling and try to distract yourself when you are in full blown jealousy.

Write down our feelings and take a break. Learn to do things that can take your mind off things such as going for a walk or learning to be calm.

Issues

Jealous that keeps happening can cause stress in your life. You have to learn to deal with the issues. If you have low self-esteem, then it has to do with your thing in your life. Find value in what you do.

Notice what positive things you have in your life and learn to respect yourself. Get rid of stress and stop trying to compete with others.

Stress can cause you to be sickly and if you need to find a therapist to help you, do so. Here are some things that you can do to help yourself be more mindful:

  • Learn to accept yourself so that you do not feel overwhelmed around others.
  • Know your unwanted thoughts and replace them with positive thinking.

Value

You have to learn to know your own value. Stop comparing yourself to someone else and learn to know that you are strong and that you are worth life. You need to stop letting your self-esteem suffer. Here are ways to get rid of low self-esteem:

  • Think about the things you are good at.
  • Be compassionate with yourself and others.
  • Do daily affirmations with yourself.
  • Remind yourself how valuable you are.
  • Do things you like to do.

Mindfulness

Be mindful of what you are thinking and saying. Stop judging yourself and others and stop being critical. When you feel that jealous feelings are coming, notice it and watch for patterns.

Being mindful can help you feel comfortable with your strong feelings. Accept your jealousy for what it is and then move forward.

When you are not being judgmental, you can stop these feelings from controlling you.

Time

You need to have time to heal. If you are feeling jealous, let these feelings come out and then go away. Your feelings of jealousy will become less intense and you will learn to realize that jealousy is an action that comes before something even happens.

When time goes on, you will feel more confident in yourself and less jealous.

Therapy

If you are unable to get your feelings in check, talk to a therapist. They can help you to talk about your jealous feelings and help you to realize why they are coming. They will show you compassion and kindness.

Here are ways a therapist can help you to handle your feelings:

  • They can help you see if your jealousy is an obsessive thought.
  • They can help you point out compulsive behaviors.
  • They can help you know if your thoughts are uncontrollable.
  • They can cause you to have violent urges.
  • They can affect your day to day life and help you know what to do if you are having these feelings.

Check out what is causing you to be jealous. This can help you to focus on what is important in your life and in your relationships.
